Express Entry: Canada invites 4,500 people to apply for permanent residence
This year, Canada has now issued 82,850 ITAs
With a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 471, a total of 4,500 invitations went to Express Entry candidates.
The criteria for the CRS is the same as the earlier Express Entry draw conducted on 30 September.
Since September 2, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been keeping 4,200 draws every two weeks. Since February, the immigration department has not had a drawing of this volume.
Express Entry for three federal economic class programmes is Canada’s immigration application management system: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
A score based on the CRS is given to candidates in those programs, as well as some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Points are awarded in English or French based on a candidate’s human capital factors , such as age, education , job experience, and language skill.
An Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency in an Express Entry invitation round is granted to the top scoring candidates. Canada invited the top 4,500 candidates in today’s draw to apply for permanent residence.
The tie-breaking rule is applied by the IRCC in the event of a tie between candidates. So, for this draw, applicants with a CRS score of 471 or more had to apply their Express Entry profile at 12:11:23 UTC before September 1 , 2020, in order to obtain an invitation.
The CRS requirement for all program draw has usually hovered above 470 this year. The Federal Skilled Trades Program-only draws in the 440s on August 6 invited trade workers with a CRS of 415, and previous Canadian Experience Class-only draws.
PNP-only draw have higher criteria since an additional 600 CRS points are immediately awarded to Express Entry applicants who obtain a provincial nomination. For Express Entry candidates who have a lower CRS ranking, PNPs provide alternate pathways to permanent residence.
The latest draw takes to 82,850 the total number of ITAs released in 2020. The number of ITAs released this year is fast-approaching the IRCC target set for Federal High Skilled Immigration in March. This year is shaping up to be a new Express Entry record-breaking year, as the number of ITAs issued to date is the highest ever.
By the end of the month, the new immigration levels will be announced. Between 2021 and 2023, Canada will set admission goals for immigrants in all classes. These levels would give us a preview of the number of immigrants Canada plans to accept next year via Express Entry.
Who is invited?
In today’s invitation round, the following are hypothetical examples of people who may have been invited.

In all English language competencies, Meena scored a CLB 5. She obtained a provincial nomination as part of a Manitoba Strategic Recruitment Mission from the Manitoba Skilled Worker Overseas Stream.
